PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a carbon nanotube that is easily, inexpensively and safely manufactured in a liquid phase without using an expensive and dangerous apparatus, that is capable of selectively forming a carbon nanotube in any shape with few limitations of a substrate and that is easily purified and is applicable to a continuous production. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the carbon nanotube comprises heating the substrate by means of heating which is noncontact with the substrate, such as high-frequency induction heating, high-frequency dielectric heating and laser heating in a reactor containing the substrate having a catalyst supported on its surface or a catalyst and a liquid organic compound.
