PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head-up display 1 that can adjust a contrast with outside scenery in accordance with a speed, downsize the device and improve the degree of design freedom around the display 1 in a vehicle. SOLUTION: This head-up display 1 includes a combiner 2 with which the driver can view with a little change of his line of sight, a light source 3 and a display device 4 for projecting an image on the combiner 2, a controller 5 for controlling the light source 3 and the display device 4 and a liquid crystal shutter 24 for changing the transmittance of outside light formed on the combiner 2. The shutter 24 is controlled by a liquid crystal driving circuit 54 in the controller 5. Further, there is provided a vehicle speed sensor 8 for detecting a driving speed of the vehicle and the transmittance of the combiner 2 is changed in accordance with the speed.
