The lifting mechanism (1), to press bottles against bottle filling machines, is in a circular array of units at intervals around a table. Each lifting unit has a plate to support a bottle, and a lifting zone supplied by pressure lines. Limit stops are at and/or within the lifting units, to vary the lifting stroke according to the pressure of the medium in the supply lines. The limit stop has a spring chamber (14) and a moving limit stop sleeve (15) between a cylinder tube (7) and the holder/guide (13). A limit stop (12) is at the tube.
