A locking system for a door or window has a main lock operated by a handle and/or key and a secondary lock operated by a slider (5) coupled to a rack and pinion servo drive. The connection between the rack and the slider is via a pin and slot which, when the servo drive is set into the parking position, provides sufficient movement in the coupling to cater for manual operation of the lock, i.e. the lock can be operated manually without dragging the servo drive. The maximum play in the coupling exceeds the manual displacement by 2 mm in either direction. The invention is also applicable to locking systems with a servo drive for both the main and secondary catches.
