Monolitic Aluminium crackcase for highly stressed diesel engines

Cylinder crankcase is formed as a cast part made from a super-eutectic aluminum alloy having the composition AlSi17Cu4Mg containing 0.1-2.0 wt.% nickel and 0.3 wt.% iron so that a further wear-resistant phase in the form of nickel-copper aluminides is present as well as the primary silicon phase. A homogeneous material structure is present in the region of the cylinder bore. An independent claim is also included for a casting process for producing the cylinder crankcase comprising casting an aluminum alloy having the composition AlSi17Cu4Mg and pouring the aluminum melt through casting profiles connected to the side walls of the crankcase.
