The modular chamber 1, for use underground to provide access to underground supply lines, machinery etc., comprises a base 2 and a side wall, the side wall comprising a number of side wall units 3 stacked one on top of another. Each side wall unit comprises a number of hollow wall elements 5,6 and a number of connector elements 4, each of which are provided with engaging elements to enable the wall elements to be connected together to form a section of the side wall. The side wall units preferably are provided with locating means 7 such as inter-engageable grooves 13 and ribs on opposed faces to allow the side wall units to be securely stacked. Similar complementary locating means may exist between the side wall units and the base, all of which may form or include a seal. The wall elements preferably comprise hollow extrusions and the connector elements may include spigots which are received in hollow sections of the wall elements. The connector elements are preferably arranged at the corners of the side wall and join wall elements at an angle of 90 degrees. The chamber may include a pipe entry piece 30 with a lamina section that has a series of weakened circular grooves for receiving pipes of different dimensions. The pipe entry piece may span a number of side wall units stacked on top of one another. A cover member is preferably received on support frame constructed in a similar way to the side wall units and packer units may be incorporated into the side wall. Also claimed is a kit for assembly of a modular chamber and a method of constructing a chamber. |
