System and method of determining a vehicle steering wheel angle

The method involves measuring an angular position of a steering wheel based on rotation speed of rear wheels (4,6) of a vehicle. The position measurement is performed as soon as average speed of each rear wheel exceeds a threshold value, and a difference and sum of the average speeds are different from another threshold value. The average speed is calculated based on a preset number of the respective rotational speeds. An independent claim is also included for a system for determining an angular poison of a steering wheel of a motor vehicle.
