PURPOSE: A method for realizing an on-demand system using a layered Multicast and web cashing method is provided to reduce the transmission delay and the network load generated between a server and a head-end node by realizing the head-end node at the nearest location of a user side, and reduce the load of the server by making the head-end node transmit the data. CONSTITUTION: A multimedia server is an on-demand multimedia system operated on the network supporting the layered multicast transmission. The head-end node stores the transmitted data. A switching agent manages the information for the data stored in the head-end node. A client supports an interactive service. The data requested from the client is stored/provided from stored in the local head-end node except the first time. The head-end nodes are shared the information for the data stored in each local head-end node through the switching agent.
