A compact damping system for a furniture door or drawer has an electric load (4) switched into the servo motor (3) circuit to provide electromotive braking in the final closing phase. The load can be regulated and can be linked to an energy store. A position sensor initiates the damping programme as the door/drawer approaches the closed setting. No further mechanical damping is required.
