The invention relates to a modulation process to a transmitter and a receiver for the transmission/ reception of the data signals modulated according to the process. For long-wave single sideband transmission of the RDS signal (SSB-RDS-Single Side Band - Radio Data System), a RDS coder (2) is used as data source, said RDS coder (2) being capable of achieving a quadrature double side band modulation (QDSB-Quadrature Double Side Band) with or without carrier frequency. The signal RDS with single sideband radio data signal (SSB - RDS) with vestigial carrier is produced by the filter method and is converted to the transmission frequency by mixing. The vestigial carrier used by the RDS coder (2) may be a road traffic information (ARI - auto traffic information ). A known all-band receiver with synchronous demodulator is used for receiving the signal RDS with single side band (SSB- RDS) with synchronous demodulator thereby allowing the further processing of the RDS base band - biphase signals.
