摘要 PURPOSE: A method for controlling brightness of a backlight for an LCD device is provided to sequentially control brightness of a backlight according to image data inputted to an LCD device, thereby increasing a lifetime of a lamp and improving an entire screen brightness ratio. CONSTITUTION: A system sets an initial value of data(S10). A memory controller of a scaler calculates a maximum brightness value from the image data for a predetermined number of frames stored in a frame memory, and transmits the maximum brightness value to a microcomputer(S12). The microcomputer sets the maximum brightness value to a brightness level of a backlight(S14). The memory controller calculates a maximum brightness value from next image data, and transmits the maximum brightness value to the microcomputer(S16). The microcomputer compares the maximum brightness value with the previous brightness level(S20), and decides whether the brightness level is to be controlled(S22). If so, the microcomputer controls the brightness level of the backlight by 1(S24).
