PURPOSE: A synchronous electric motor is provided to achieve improved start torque and lengthen the operating life of the motor by accomplishing an overall configuration for accepting high transmission ratios. CONSTITUTION: A synchronous electric motor comprises a center stator(5) fixed on an axis(7); a rotor having a permanent magnet, wherein the rotor is arranged outside the center stator, and supported by the axis at the state where at least one bearing is interposed between the rotor and the axis; and a pulley(12) fixed at the rotor in such a manner that the pulleys are rotatable. The rotor is substantially cup-shaped, and has an end wall where a hub for accommodating the bearing is provided. The pulley is fixed on the hub such that the assembly of the hub and the pulley is rotatable.
