PURPOSE: A dewatering operation control method of a washing machine is provided to smoothly dewater the laundry without scattering damaging the laundry if the laundry as a pillow floats over the constant height. CONSTITUTION: A dewatering operation control method of a washing machine is composed of steps for detecting the floatation of the laundry with starting to rotate a washing tub; performing coping motions for preventing the damages of the cloths and the wear of a tub cover if the floating laundry is detected; checking if reaching a set dewatering time; continuously performing the coping motions for preventing the damages of the cloths and the wear of the tub cover if the floating laundry is detected without reaching the set dewatering time; and completing the dewatering operation if reaching the set dewatering time. The coping motion is to reduce the rotational speed of the washing tub.
