PURPOSE: A composition including a Saururus chinensis extract as an effective ingredient and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient is provided. It significantly inhibits NO and PGE2 which intermediate an inflammatory mechanism and markedly suppress the expression of induction type NOS(iNOS), COX-2 protein and mRNA. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition having an effect of preventing and treating an inflammation-related disease contains 0.1 to 80% by weight of a Saururus chinensis extract and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or excipient. A health supplementary food exhibiting preventing effect on the inflammation-related disease contains the Saururus chinensis extract and a food acceptable food supplementary additive and is in the shape of powder, granules, tablets, capsules and beverages.
