An aqueous composition containing wool grease and a cationic or nonionic surfactant that can be used to stabilise a wide range of particulate materials (such as soils, sand, fines such as dust fines, and other particulate material which may be subject to erosion such as erosion caused by wind, rain, traffic and the like, and to loss of strength caused by prolonged contact with water) is disclosed. The composition can be used to stabilise road materials, earth banks, coal piles, loose sand and dams. A binder such as a lignin sulphonate may be added to the composition to provide improved properties.
