PURPOSE: A method for executing the POST(Power On Self Test) on a mainboard that a controller ROM is removed is provided to make the POST of a system BIOS(Basic Input/Output System) execute a process for boarding a LAN controller and an IEEE1394(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) controller on the mainboard. CONSTITUTION: It is judged that a product serial number of the system is stored in the BIOS installed to the mainboard(S130). If the product serial number is stored in the BIOS, an MAC(Media Access Control) address and a global ID are respectively set by using the product serial number(S134,S144). If not, the MAC address and the global ID are respectively set by using the serial number stored in a predetermined place of a DMI(Desktop Management Interface)(S132,S142). The MAC address and the chipset information of the LAN controller are programmed to the LAN controller(S136). The global ID and the chipset information of a serial interface controller are programmed to the serial interface controller(S146).
