The device has an electronic module (115) that analyzes signals from sensors measuring angular shifts in at least two axes and derives an average value, a maximum value and the period of the signal. A detection unit (120) measures wind force as a function of the maximum value and the signal period and another detector (125) senses subsidence of the structure based on the average value. A transmitter unit (130) sends an alarm signal if the wind force exceeds a safety threshold or if shifting of the foundations is detected. Preferably an anemometer is combined with the wind force detector, and measurements of air temperature and light levels are also made to ensure that working conditions meet the necessary safety requirements. An additional sensor may measure RF power radiated from an antenna or antenna system, to provide a further warning that a maintenance worker should not approach the installation. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring a building.
