PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique which can fully prevent deformation of printing papers consequent upon drying of ink droplets. SOLUTION: When an ink amount discharged after a leading end (t) of the printing paper enters an opposed region A before it reaches a detection position p1 exceeds an ink amount of "a level whereat the deformation is generated", the leading end (t) of the printing paper is transferred from the detection position p1 to a hold position p2 (Fig. (b)), and kept waiting for a predetermined time in a state while held between rollers. The shape of the leading end side of the printing paper is maintained, and the deformation of the printing paper consequent to drying of ink can be prevented. After the leading end is returned to a resumption position p3 (Fig. (c)), printing of images based on printing data is resumed in a state with the leading end being transferred to the detection position p1.
