<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid polymer fuel cell where metal separators 14, 15 made of common steel, carbon steel or the like which is cheap and has good workability can be used by maintaining the atmosphere in a cell so as to prevent condensed water adhering to the separators 14, 15. <P>SOLUTION: In the solid polymer fuel cell, where a hydrogen electrode 12 and an oxidation electrode 13 are respectively connected to each side of a polymer ion exchange membrane 11 and are sandwiched by separators 14, 15, the separator 14 made of common steel or carbon steel is used on the hydrogen electrode side. By incorporating switching mechanisms for humidified gas/dry gas 30<SB>H2</SB>, 30<SB>O2</SB>in distribution systems of a hydrogen fuel and an oxidizing agent sent into the hydrogen electrode 12 side and the oxidation electrode 13 side, respectively, or by regulating the desired temperature of a humidifier 36<SB>H2</SB>depending on the difference of the cell temperature and the humidifier temperature, the atmosphere on at least the hydrogen electrode 12 side is maintained so as to prevent condensation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
