<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remote monitoring system capable of flexibly interrupting and restarting a remote monitoring according to the using form of a portable terminal in the remote monitoring using general hyper text browsing software. <P>SOLUTION: When screen data are requested by use of the general hyper text browsing software 10 from a remote monitoring terminal 1 to a remote monitoring server 3 through a network 2, the remote monitoring server 3 supplies updates of the screen data to the remote monitoring terminal 1 when the screen data requested is within a valid period from the updating time of screen data included in the request. The server generates new updated data based on data collected from a plant and transmits to the monitoring terminal 1 when the screen data requested are out of the valid period.
