Width control for extruded strips of soft elastic material e.g. rubber, uses adjustable roller conveyor after extrusion to control shrinkage

A profiled composite strip (5) is extruded from an extrusion head (4), which is fed by extruders (1, 2, 3) and placed on a draw-off conveyor (8) that runs at extrusion speed. It is then placed on a roller conveyor with individually adjustable roller speeds to control the shrinkage and give the required width according to sensors before and after the roller conveyor. An independent claim is also included for a width control arrangement for extruded strips that includes a shrinkage control conveyor after the draw-off conveyor (8), with at least two drives for separate roller groups. They are controlled from a controller (35) according to measurements by width sensors before and after the roller conveyor. A weighing arrangement (7) can be placed at the exit of the roller conveyor.
