MOTION PICTURE ENCODING/DECODING METHOD IN INTERLACE SCAN SYSTEM AND APPARATUS THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion picture encoding/decoding method and apparatus therefor in which a motion between frames is estimated and compensated in an interlace scan type motion picture.

SOLUTION: The interlace scan type frame motion estimation and/or compensation method includes the steps of: inputting a macro block and a search region to estimate a frame motion vector for the unit of integer pixels; matching a bottom field pixel in the macro block with a top field pixel in a reference frame corresponding to a motion vector resulting from scaling a vertical component of the motion vector from a distance between fields when the vertical component of the motion vector for the estimated integer pixel unit is odd number; and matching the top field or bottom field pixel in the macro block with the top field or bottom field pixel in the reference frame corresponding to the original corresponding motion vector when the predicted vertical component of the motion vector for the integer pixel unit is even number. The present invention is related to a frame motion estimation and compensation method that is utilized for interlace scan motion picture encoding/decoding, and is generally applied to video recording and reproducing equipment such as digital television, digital camcoder and DVD.
