PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic image pickup device capable of shortening a photographing interval at the time of performing consecutive photographing. SOLUTION: This electronic image pickup device comprises an imaging optical system 12a for forming an optical image of a subject, an image pickup element 27 for converting the optical image formed by the imaging optical system 12a into an electrical signal, a dust-proofing filter 21 arranged between the imaging optical system 12a and the image pickup element 27 and for preventing dirt, dust, etc., from attaching to a photoelectric conversion surface of the image pickup element 27, and a microcomputer 150 for body control which makes the dust-proofing filter 21 perform dirt and dust elimination operation by making the dust-proofing filter 21 vibrate with a prescribed frequency. In a consecutive photographing mode, the microcomputer 150 for body control performs dirt and dust elimination operation by the dust-proofing filter 21 only for a period of time enough to eliminate dirt and dust before the first photographing operation and makes control so as not to perform the dirt and dust elimination operation at the time of performing the second and subsequent photographing operations.
