Method for rendering leather and pelts hydrophobic by treatment, before, during or after, retanning, with one or more formulations (X) that contain 1-30wt.% of a mixture (A) of polysiloxanes containing 10-90wt.% each of carboxy-containing polysiloxane (A1) and carboxy-free polysiloxane (A2), also 3-25wt.% emulsifier (A3). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) leather and pelts treated by the new method; and (2) formulations that contain 1-20wt.% of mixture (A).
