A fire collar (10), for location in a concrete slab (46) around a deformable conduit (14), has a housing with a passageway (16) through which the conduit (14) passes. The collar (10) has a housing (12) in which are located two compression springs (18, 20) with arms (30, 32) which are held against the force of the springs (18, 20) by fusible Iinks (34, 36). When the heat of a fire on one side of the slab (46) causes the fusible links (34, 36) to soften or meit, the force of the springs (18, 20) causes the spring arms (30, 32) to rotate towards the conduit (14), engaging the conduit (14) and collapsing it. An intumescent layer (42) may be provided around the conduit (14) to assist in collapsing it.
