<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer having a function for measuring sharpness in which quantitative quality control (QC) of sharpness can be carried out easily at the installation site. <P>SOLUTION: The printer capable of recording a two-dimensional image on a recording material comprises a pattern generating means generating at least a test pattern for measuring the sharpness, a density measuring means consisting of a light source for illuminating a recording image being outputted and a photosensor, and a means for outputting the measurements from the measuring means.
