<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a webbing take-up device capable of disconnecting the mechanical connection of a pretensioner mechanism and a torsion shaft as soon as the rotation of the torsion shaft in a pull-out direction starts after the end of the operation of the pretensioner mechanism. <P>SOLUTION: When the piston 88 is about to be rapidly depressed, a taper part 94 of the piston 88 presses the taper part of the stopper ring 96 to enlarge the diameter of the stopper ring 96 and the outer peripheral part of the stopper ring 96 is brought into press-contact with the inner peripheral part of a cylinder 86. Thus the downward movement of the piston 88 is restricted. Further when the torsion shaft 44 rotates in the pull-out direction in this state, a pin 60 connecting the small diameter cylindrical part 50 and the large diameter part 56 of a sleeve 48 is sheared.
