PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a negative chargeability control resin having improved uniformity of a copolymer composition constituting the negative chargeability control resin, being environmentally stable, having good charging property, dispersibility and colorability, and capable of satisfactorily controlling charge amount. SOLUTION: The negative chargeability control resin comprises a vinyl copolymer prepared by copolymerizing a monomer composition including a vinyl monomer represented by at least formula (1) or (2) and a vinyl monomer having a carboxyl group or a functional group in which a carboxyl group is provided with a salt structure. The negative chargeability control resin which is capable of freely controlling charges, prevents toner scattering when used as a charge control resin, ensures a clear hue and excellent image reproducibility, and enables formation of a high density image, can be obtained.
