PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus or the like that automatically cleans a separation paper supply part or conveying part of an automatic document feeder and can automatically determine the service life and inform it. SOLUTION: In an ADF device of an image forming apparatus having the ADF, a cleaning member is formed output-settably with respect to the separation paper supply part or conveying part, dirty degree of the separation paper supply part or conveying part is detected, the cleaning member is brought into contact with an object to be cleaned of the separation paper supply part or conveying part to clean it timely.
