PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charcoal kiln for simply and securely carbonizing disused wood such as cut wood. SOLUTION: The charcoal kiln 1 is formed by excavating the ground 60 and comprises a kiln inner wall 10 formed by piling up volcanic rocks 11 on the excavated inner peripheral surface and lining them with clay 12, a kiln cover 20 which has a recess 23 capable of containing water and is openably installed on the kiln ceiling, a chimney 30 sealable in the latter half of a fumigation step, a fuel hole 40 which is sealed on fumigation, and a fuel hole wall 50 for directing a fire to the upper part. The top 13 of the kiln is constructed at a level higher than the surrounding ground 60 and concrete 14 is cast to remove a gap between the top 13 of the kiln and the kiln cover 20.
