PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake controlling system for a vehicle constituted to perform the brake control in such a manner that an object existing on the self vehicle track is detected, a possibility for avoiding the contact with the detected object by steering including whether the self vehicle can change a lane or not, and a possibility for avoiding the contact with the detected object by braking are respectively judged, and the brake control is performed by making the self vehicle generate the braking force based on the judgement result for both cases. SOLUTION: This brake controlling system for the vehicle detects the forward object existing on the self vehicle track, judges the possibility for avoiding the contact with the detected forward object by steering including whether the self vehicle can change a lane or not (steps S2 to S17), and also judges the possibility for avoiding the contact with the detected forward object by braking as well (steps S18 to S20), and performs the brake control by making the self vehicle generate the braking force based on the two judgement results. Thus, the brake control being suitable to the actual running environment is performed. A suitable brake control is possible, e.g., even when a lateral movement is impossible due to the existence of a road structure such as a guardrail or a wall, or due to the existence of a vehicle which is running on an adjacent lane.
