A spontaneously foaming hair tonic or rinse system comprises: (a) a container system including an aerosol dispenser and a bag-on-valve system, a piston system, a bag-in-can system or mechanical system under pressure; (b) a basic tonic or rinse formulation including hydrophobic materials, emulsifiers, active agents, humectants, surfactants, perfume oil, water and optionally cationic materials, thickeners, acids and preservatives; and (c) low-boiling hydrocarbons mixed with (b).
