<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a white line detection device detecting a white line with high accuracy by use of only an image of a road photographed from a vehicle while suppressing increase of a processing amount even if the image includes the white line and an object except the white line. <P>SOLUTION: In this white line detection device, a differential value of a luminance is calculated in a prescribed area of the image photographed from the vehicle to detect an edge part. Next, by referring to a distribution or the number of the detected edge parts, it is decided whether the edge parts are noise parts or not, and desired white line candidate point is extracted. Lastly, the white line drawn in a boundary of a lane on which the vehicle travels is detected from positions of a plurality of white line candidate points.
