PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for a transmission which can solve the problem occurring when a hydraulic controller having both of a flow rate control valve and a pressure control valve is constituted. SOLUTION: The controller for the transmission is so constituted that a change gear ratio of the transmission is controlled by controlling an oil amount in a hydraulic chamber with the flow rate control valve. The pressure control valve, which controls the change gear ratio by controlling the oil pressure in the hydraulic chamber, is provided. The controller for the transmission is provided with an input torque judging means (a step S2) for judging the torque inputted to the transmission and change gear control means (steps S3, S4, and S5) for controlling the control of the change gear ratio by the pressure control valve on the basis of the judgement result of the input torque.
