PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersant of a synthetic fiber for papermaking, exhibiting excellent dispersion stability of the fiber, having good wettability to a hydrophobic fiber, and providing a high-quality nonwoven fabric when producing the nonwoven fabric of the hydrophobic fiber such as a polyolefin-based fiber by a papermaking method. SOLUTION: The dispersant for the papermaking of the hydrophobic fiber comprises (A) a fatty acid monoester composed of a fatty acid and a polyethylene glycol having 1,000-5,000 weight average molecular weight, and (B) an anion activator regulated so that the mass ratio of the components (A) to (B) is (40/60)-(90/10).
