PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain an MPPT capable of efficiently tracking the maximum power point with a simple circuit. SOLUTION: A switch is provided between a solar cell and a battery, and the maximum electric power is generated by changing the moments when the switch is turned on and off. More specifically, this MPPT corresponds to a maximum power point tracking control method, and to a so-called step-down type which sets the output voltage of the solar cell to be higher than the battery voltage. In the step-down type, it is required to make setting for the solar cell and the battery so that the voltage of the solar cell will not be lower than the battery voltage even if the amount of solar radiation is reduced. The circuit for the step-down type maximum power point tracking control method can be made comparatively compact as compared with a temperature compensating voltage constant control method, and the step-down type is more efficient as compared with the step-up type.
