PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain/eliminate knocking over a wider internal combustion engine operation range in a spark ignition type internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: A control unit determines a hydrogen injection quantity and a gasoline injection quantity on the basis of an operation state of the internal combustion engine 10, and injects gasoline by driving a fuel injection valve in the ordinary timing. The control unit directly supplies hydrogen H<SB>2</SB>in a cylinder 11 by driving a hydrogen injection valve HIJ at a compression stroke, and the supplied hydrogen H<SB>2</SB>flows up to a diagonal position of the hydrogen injection valve HIJ along an inner wall surface of the cylinder 11. Then, a part of the hydrogen H<SB>2</SB>mutually collides/merges, and flows to the vicinity of a spark plug 31, and as a result, a thick area of the hydrogen concentration is formed in the vicinity of the spark plug 31 and an area along an inner peripheral wall surface of the cylinder 11.
