SIMPLE METHOD FOR FUMIGATING SOIL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple method for fumigating soil by which methyl iodide that is not an ozonosphere depleting substance is used and methyl iodide is solely used without using a liquid carrier by relatively easy operation without requiring large-scaled equipment. SOLUTION: A pan (2) is arranged on the surface of plowed soil (1) and a methyl iodide-filled can (4) is set in a perforating tool (3) equipped with at least two sharp projections (34) in a can housing part, and then placed in the pan (2). The surface of the soil is covered with a resin sheet (5) to form a hermetically sealed space (6) containing the pan (2), perforating tool (3) and the methyl iodide-filled can (4). Force is then applied from the upper part of the resin sheet to the perforating tool and the methyl iodide-filled can to form holes in the methyl iodide-filled can. At least one of the holes is kept in a state opened to the air and the methyl iodide is discharged from the other hole into the pan and evaporated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
