Device for improving the readability of patterns on a computer monitor in interfering background light. The device (1) has the form of a plate that is placed near to the monitor between it and the interfering light sources. The plate comprises a tensioned film or colored translucent plastic plate that permits the passage of between 10 and 80 and optimally 20 and 25 percent of incident light. The device can be attached to the monitor or freestanding.
