PURPOSE: A color cathode ray tube is provided to achieve improved structural strength by coupling a band in the section spaced apart from the face of a panel. CONSTITUTION: A color cathode ray tube comprises a panel having a flat outer surface and an inner surface with a predetermined curvature. The value of SF(shape function) is 2.5 or higher, wherein SF is the ratio of U/U', and U is the size of the effective surface of the screen of the panel, and U' is the vertical distance from the center of the inner surface of the panel to the top of round(TOR). The expression 10.5mm<=h<=20.0mm is satisfied, wherein h is the distance between the outer surface of the face of the panel and the front end of a metal band.
