<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and efficient document access control method, program and device capable of implementing unified control over access to a plurality of kinds of documents created by means of a variety of pieces of document creation software stored in a document database, and making access to the read documents and users without writing access control such as rules on the documents themselves. <P>SOLUTION: The document access control method includes reading a document stored in the document DB (10), upon an access request input via an operating/browsing part 5, and outputting the document via the operating/browsing part. For each document stored in the document DB, a rule including various requirements about the reading of the document is set (15) in a rule DB 9 and each document stored in the document DB 10 is read and analyzed (19) in a manner that can deal with the access request. Further, reading of the document designated by the access request is approved (22) according to the rule read from the rule DB 9. According to the approval and based on the document being analyzed, the document designated by the access request is created and delivered (25) as the read document to the operating/browsing part.
