PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely detect a position of a specific original point regardless of direction of a relative movement of an incremental encoder. SOLUTION: A directional signal obtained from a periodic signal for increment measurement output from the increment encoder via an interpolation circuit 11, indicating the direction of the relative movement of the incremental encoder is compared with a specific comparison value by the comparator 12. The directions of the relative movement are discriminated, and the original point signal is generated by the gate circuit 15 based on the fixed point signal output from the incremental encoder and the result of the discrimination of directions of the relative movement.
