PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet transporting mechanism, a sheet transporting method, and an image formation device capable of sensing a double feed of sheets when sheets are transported by a roller couple accurately through the thickness sensing without using any particular rollers etc. and of accomplishing the cost-down. SOLUTION: The sheet transporting mechanism is equipped with a roller couple 170 to transport each sheet 145 upon pinching it between rollers 171 and 172, a position sensor 50 to sense the motion amount of the rollers moving in association with the transport of the sheet and emit a sensing signal corresponding to the number of sheets, a memory to set the number judging threshold in accordance with the number of sheets and store it in memory, and a control part to judge the number of sheets transported being pinched by the rollers on the basis of the sensing signal and the number judging threshold.
