The invention relates to the measurement or monitoring of oxygen dissolved in liquids such as, for example, water. According to the invention, the electrode, unlike existing electrodes which are amperometric, takes the potentiometric measurement such that the measurement is taken together with a reference electrode such as a silver/silver chloride electrode and a high-input-impedance voltage-measuring device. A potentiometric electrode comprises a substrate (1) of insulating material, a layer of conductive material (2) which is disposed on the aforementioned substrate, a terminal zone (2a) which forms part of the conductive material, a layer of oxygen-sensitive material (3) which is disposed on said conductive material, a polymeric membrane layer which is permeable to oxygen and impermeable to ions (4) and which is positioned on the oxygen-sensitive material, and an insulating layer (5) which covers all of the electrode excluding the active zone and the terminal zone.
