<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dental head unit for forming a root canal and measuring the length of the root canal that can restrain an occurrence of an electrical contact failure, parts of which can be relatively easily manufactured and assembled. <P>SOLUTION: The dental head unit has a head portion 10B on which a sleeve 19 detachably receiving a cutting tool 18 is rotatably borne, a neck portion 10A extending rearward from the head portion and provided with a connecting opening 33 for connecting a handpiece body to the rear end thereof, a contact 11 energizably contacted to and detachably provided at the cutting tool and a contact holding member 12 fixed to the rear end of the contact and provided slidably in the direction of the axis of the member of the neck portion.
