<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved differential limiting device capable of effecting active control together with other control system situated at a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: The differential limiting device comprises a case 40; a pair of pinion gears 42; a pair of side gears 45 and 46; and an electrically operable coupling including magnetic response fluid. The coupling selectively connects one of the side gears 45 and 46 and the case 40 drivably. In an embodiment, the differential limiting device includes a rotor 50 positioned in a state to make contact with magnetic viscous fluid and having a plurality of blades 76 extending to the outside. An electromagnet 52 is selectively started and the viscosity of magnetic viscous fluid is changed. In this way, the differential device can be functioned as a (released) differential limiting device, a (locked) differential limiting device, or a differential limiting device coping with a slip limit condition. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
