摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display and its driving method wherein a high definition picture can be obtained. <P>SOLUTION: As for a PDP 10, a cell column is installed between the front face substrate 12 and the rear face substrate 14. A display electrode 22 is installed at the front face substrate 12. A dielectrics protective layer 24 is installed in a form to cover the whole face of the front face substrate 12. An address electrode 26 is installed at the rear face substrate 14. A barrier 28 in which the neighboring cell columns corresponding to the neighboring address electrodes 26 are made to be separated and to be independent is formed corresponding to the number of cell columns. A discharge gas is encapsulated into each cell column. An excimer laser 30 is installed on the rear face side of the rear face substrate 14 corresponding to each cell 16 of the cell column. When data are inputted into a prescribed cell, electrons are made to be generated from the dielectric protective layer 24 by making the excimer laser 30 operate, and the discharge is made to be initiated at an electric potential difference of a prescribed value by lowering discharge start voltage. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
