PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simply constituted charger for secondary battery which does not consume the current to detect a second battery voltage and makes it possible to eliminate a function of detecting that an abnormal secondary battery which exceeds a predetermined voltage range is connected and a current limiting element for providing protection when a secondary battery is reversely connected. SOLUTION: The charger is provided with a voltage detecting means which detects the voltage difference between the voltage of a power source for charging and the terminal voltage of a secondary battery. When the voltage difference detected through the differential voltage detection circuit is equal to or lower than a predetermined voltage, a charge control circuit is driven to selectively connect the secondary battery to the power source for charging, and then the secondary battery is charged.
