<p>A liquid-crystal (LC) mixture comprises a compound containing alkenyl or alkenyloxy radical and alkyl or alkoxy radical. An LC mixture comprises a compound of formula (I). [Image] R 1> 1>alkenyl or alkenyloxy radical having 2-7C (preferably CH 2=CH- or CH 3-CH=CH); R 1> 2>alkyl or alkoxy radical having 1-12C or alkenyl or alkenyloxy radical having 2-12C, in which optionally, one or more CH 2 groups are replaced by -O-, -S-, -Ctriple boundC-, -CO-, -OCO- or -COO- such that heteroatoms are not linked directly to one another (preferably CH 2=CH- or CH 3-CH=CH-. Independent claims are also included for: (a) a twisted-nematic (TN) and super-twisted nematic (STN) LC display comprising two outer plates, which, together, with a frame, form a cell, a nematic LC mixture of positive dielectric anisotropy located in the cell, electrode layers with alignment layers on the insides of the outer plates, a tilt angle between the longitudinal axis of the molecules at the surface of the outer plates and the outer plates of 0-30[deg], a twist angle of the LC mixture in the cell from alignment layer to alignment layer with 22.5-6000; and (b) a cholesteric LC display, surface stabilized cholesteric texture or polymer stabilized cholesteric texture display comprising chiral dopant(s) and a LC mixture. A nematic LC mixture comprises: (1) 15-80 wt.% liquid-crystalline component A comprising compounds having a dielectric anisotropy of greater than 1.5; (2) 20-85 wt.% liquid-crystalline component B comprising compound(s) having a dielectric anisotropy of 1.5-1.5; (3) 0-20 wt.% liquid-crystalline component D comprising compound(s) having a dielectric anisotropy of below 1.5, and (4) optionally, an optically active component C in an amount that the ratio between the layer thickness and the natural pitch of the chiral nematic liquid-crystal mixture is 0.2 to 1.3.</p> |
