The invention relates to a method of controlling the steering of a vehicle in which the driver controls the steering of the wheels (9) by moving a steering control element (1) and in which a resisting torque is applied to said steering control element (1). According to the invention, the aforementioned resisting torque is a function of the steering element displacement speed which is weighted by a damping coefficient, said damping coefficient being dynamically adjusted and comprising at least two combined components taking account of the wheel steering variations over two rolling periods of different lengths.
